Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System – revolution in black hair care!

Are you naturally curly and prefer to wear straight, frizz free hair? Are you transitioning from relaxed to natural? Do you want the relaxer look, without the potential damage? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I’m happy to share the NEW Strengthening Therapy System by Design Essentials.

For those of you that know me, you already know my love affair with HEALTHY hair. For those of you that don’t well, i’m extremely passionate about my work, health and educating clients. I “rep” for quality products which is why I just had to bring this quality system to my salon station.

STS PRODUCTS

Design Essentials S.T.S ( Strengthening Therapy System) is truly state of the art. It’s an amino-acid infused Thermal Reconditioning System that goes beyond strength to straighten, stretch and smooth, frizzy, naturally curly, multi-textured, transitioning and chemically treated hair for up to 12 weeks.

Models Styled with DE STRENGTHENING SYSTEM

Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System is neither a relaxer system nor a keratin system. Unlike Keratin systems, Strengthening Therapy is truly Formaldehyde Free. It is an Amino-Acid based system that tames, smoothes and elongates curls for a lasting, yet non-permanent effect (up to 12 weeks).

The Design Essentials STS is NOT a chemical, but a protein based treatment that does not contain any harsh or permanent chemicals. Unlike chemical based products, Strengthening Therapy System does not break nor rearrange the bonds. In contrast, it fills the hair fiber with micro-fine amino acids, resulting in the stretching or elongation of the hair strand, while providing maximum strengthening to the hair. Strengthening Therapy System is actually one of the safest and most effective amino-acid infused thermal reconditioning systems on the market. It is even gentle enough to be used on a child without damage or harm to the child or her hair

Some may ask if amino acids aren’t protein which is similar to the keratin treatment, well yes they are BUT Silk amino acids are silk proteins broken down into small enough units to be beneficial to your hair.

Your hair will love silk amino acids because they’re so moisturizing and protect against heat damage. This is such a wonderful revelation for black women’s hair.

So lets break it down:

Who should try STS?

I recommend it for anyone who is frustrated transitioning from relaxed to natural; clients who are natural and are seeking manageability and curl definition especially mixed girls; and clients whose hair is weakened or chemically altered (relaxed, permanent colored, etc) and are experiencing breakage.

What are the products like?

The System is divided into four products which focus on strengthening the hair while yielding straight, silky, smooth results without permanent chemical alteration. These four products include: Cleansing Sulfate Free Shampoo, Transitioning Mousse, Elongation Mousse and Silkening Spray.

How long does it last?

You will see up to 12 weeks of results of visibly stronger, healthier, more manageabile hair that is silky smooth, perfectly curled and frizz free

So,

I’m really excited about this revolution in black hair care, feel free to ask me more about it and to make your appointment to have it done. It is a salon-exclusive treatment and should ONLY be done by a DE certified stylist.

Fall in love with your hair

One Love 😉

    Hi Malibu,

Does this work on kinky natural hair? I’m completely natural & I wanted to straighten my hair for awhile but I noticed that most of the models used foe DE have really pretty mixed textured hair or hair that’s seems to be easy to straightened with just a general air foam & flat iron. Do you recommend this product for naturally kinky texture hair clients?

Yes, yes YES I DO. I’ve seen it work great on coarser hair textures, however maintenance is key! You, clients, will need good blow dry technique as well. Remember it is not a permanent straightener so i recommend it only to who enjoys wearing hair kinky natural sometimes. I say try it Chanel, think you’ll love it

Hi. I think this is what was recently used on my hair prior to having it flat ironed. Does it have a strong, bad smell at first? How do you get your curls back right away? It may have been some kind of keratin treatment which left my hair pretty much straight when I had extremely coarse, tight curls prior to using it. Will I just have to keep washing it daily to get the product out, or just wait until it “wears off”? Thanks.

Sounds like it’s a keratin treatment u did though. Once u wash your hair your curls would have been back unless u blow dry and flat iron with the STS. u gonna have to wait until it wears off

Does it really last for 12 weeks? I’m completely natural with a very tight coiled curl pattern and I sweat a lot in my head, but I like wearing my hair straight. What do I do after a good sweat, wrap it up, blow dry it? I’m thinking the transitioning moose is best for me, what do u think?

    • malibubeautyjm says:

Yes it does. Varies between 8 to 12 week depending on the individual and maintenance. The fact that you sweat alot on your scalp would only mean that you shampoo and blow dry more often and pay keen attention to maintaining that sleek look and yes the transitioning mousse would be for you

Very informational. I am actually thinking of switching to this instead of what my stylist used on my hair. She used the Great Hair Restructuring System which is supposed to be chemical free and its actually done similar to this system. However, it doesn’t wear off and you have to grow it out. This leads me to believe that there has to be some type of chemical or something in Great Hair. So, I will not be using it anymore. My hair is still curly but lacks the volume I used to have. I’m just looking for manageability which is what the DE system seems like it will give to natural hair. Great post!

Hey I left the post on FB but wanted anyone who reads this to know that I finally got the Design Essentials Strengthening Therapy System on 12/27/12 my hair was shiny and bouncy. I washed it on 1/10/13, I used Loreal’s EverCreme Sulfate-Free Moisture System Intense Nourishing Shampoo,Nourishing Conditioner and Nourishing Leave-In Spray. I blow dried and flat ironed it using Rusk thermal serum, my hair is still shiny and bouncy. I’ve worked out and no frizz. Love it

I have tried it on my hair type and I wasn’t happy. I think people should tell the truth about this product. If you are a natural hair person who like to wear your hair straight more than u do natural this product is for you when u wash it is straight. I have to use a lot of products to make it look any thing close to natural any more. I am now just buying my time 2-3 months with the hopes that the product will wear out. I never wear my hair straight and was clear in communicating that to the stylist. She told me the product would make my hair stronger which it didn’t . It is not the wonder cure for going back and forth like most say it is. My hair now is more like I have a texturizer then my natural texture.

I have the treatment. I sweat a lot & work out. I don’t like how my hair is afterwards. It feels like my hair texture has changed (I don’t mind my natural texture, but am used to having a mild relaxer). It feels dry, poofy & tangled especially in the center after exercising, sweating or even after a shower). I have a relaxer & only wear my hair natural when it’s really short. My stylist isn’t answering my questions well enough because she thinks I think this is a straightening treatment. I don’t know if I should go back to a relaxer or stay with this? Does it eventually wear out of my hair? If so, how long? Thanks!

Hey,,, it wears out in about 2 to 3 months. If you prefer straight looks with how much you work out, its best you either get a relaxer or keep it natural and opt for weaves when you wanna go straight. The straightening of the Sts is thermal, so in order to get your sleekness after sweating you gotta use heat. In your case you probably have to do that more often due to your workout so i hope my options helped.

Hi, in your case you may try to do some styles that allow you to get a good stretch of natural hair, about 3 to 4 inches before starting the system. That way you can still go straight while trimming away those relaxed ends until they’re all gone. So these products are definitely an option to consider

I’ve read that heat should not be applied to natural hair more than 2 times per month. Does this system give enough protection to be able to apply heat more than twice per month? If I don’t want to use heat that often can I go back to curly in between? What will my curls look like?

Hi, well if you want to go straight you will need to do a blow out but whats vital is your products. The silkening spray gives heat protection. Also if you want to go curly in between you can use the curl pudding to ehance your textured look. The system allows versatility and preserves your hairs health. I encourage you to look into the DE natural products for style options.

If so, what setting products would be ok to use with the system? What about a dry perm rod set since u have to use heat to activate it? I have type 4 hair and it is very hard to keep my roots manageable (even with the system) so I figured that when I am styling at home that a perm rod set might help hide my roots better… I do not like the texture and difficulty my hair poses without the system… So I am trying to find a style that works well with it… Thanks!

This is a great thread. Can you update with the new Express STS System? I got it done 5 weeks ago on my 8 and half month transitioning hair. I got the version used for wearing hair straight most of the time. It has really helped me to use heat less to maintain my straight hair. It’s not a relaxer, so I think people have to be realistic, but I biggest benefit for me, so far, has been that after my roots sweat a bit, I can wrap my hair and it will be pretty straight the next day without using heat. My edges are much smoother all of the time, as well and my hair is very soft and silky. I use the DE Express STS Sulfate Free Shampoo for maintenance.

For anyone using this, please keep in mind stylist technique has some impact on your outcome. Make sure the person who applies this product is a “healthy hair” stylist, which means they won’t use too much heat while applying or advise you to use the wrong system for your desired outcome.

My hair is about two inches above my bra strap in back and the texture is 3c-4a. I can’t yet speak to my hair going back to it’s original curl pattern, but I definitely see a curl pattern on the natural part of my hair when I shampoo.

I hope this helps, because there are so few reviews online, especially for the new Express System.

Next month 10/14 I’m getting the Silkening Treatment, I have 4A/3C hair type and it’s still natural with some curl but not straight. Anyway I’m still a fan

    Hello,
I have been relaxed for years and I would like to try this system out. I am due for a touch up so I am wondering which product would work for me. Should I try the transitioning mousse or the spray?

Hi I got this system on 10/16/15. My hair is thinning and coming out in places. I wasn’t have this problem before the system. I have been natural for 5 years now and I hardly even wear it straight. How long will it take for it to be completely out of my hair? And can I do about my hair falling out? I need help because this has really upset me being that I didn’t have a problem before it. I was looking for something to loosen my curl pattern.

well, that all depends on how you are at maintaining your hair, however with a little practice you can do it. you should 1st of all be wrapping your hair nightly, & should own a good blow dryer & flat iron, also be using a sulfate free shampoo, the silkening spray plus a light moisturiser

Hello! I am using the STS system on my client today who is relaxer free and has been color free for 6mos. She wants color..is that possible before or after and how long should I wait?

Malibu, I am thinking about this for both myself and my daughter. But, until I completely make up my mind is it safe to use the silkening spray, and will it keep our already relaxer hair straight longer?

I’ve been using the curly-girl method on my daughter’s hair now for many years (aka: completely free of “-cone” products like dimethicone, silicone, amodimethicone, etc). I find that in so doing, there is no build-up of moisturizing products when daily reapplied. (When there are -cone products on the hair shaft, it acts as a barrier and completely prevents moisturizing products from doing their job.) How does this system work for my girls when they want to occasionally wear their hair straight and have a loosened curl pattern? Most of the DE products I’ve seen contain -cone ingredients… Please advise.

Well you are right, they do but as I stylist use clarifying shampoos before moisture treatments to remove buildup ….so you may want to add a clarifying shampoo to your product stock because straightening products do have that ingredient which actually protects the hair from heat

I noticed that the STS system has been updated recently. Does it still offer the option of either straight or curly, or with the updated version can you wear your hair either way?
